Accounts FAQs
I was an outpatient:
Will Medicare cover my scan?
  • SVPR are pleased to bulk bill rebateable scans for patients with a valid pension or healthcare card from Centrelink. Commonwealth Seniors do not apply.
  • Medicare will cover majority of your scan and you will incur a minimal out-of-pocket cost. Please call our Administrative Team to discuss any account queries or to obtain an estimated cost for your imaging.
What is an out-of-pocket fee?
  • The out-of-pocket fee or gap payment is the difference between the fee for our services and the Medicare rebate. We strive to have the lowest out of pocket fees to ensure all patients have access to equitable health care.
  • St Vincent’s Private Radiology charge out-of-pocket fees to cover the difference between the cost of providing the service and the Medicare rebate. Any profit generated is invested back into our service and St Vincent’s Hospital.
  • There are no fees for pension/healthcare/veterans affairs card holders for rebateble scans, with the exception of procedures. Commonwealth Seniors do not apply.
Why is there no Medicare rebate for my scan?
  • Some scans are not covered by Medicare, meaning you will not receive a rebate.
  • You will be advised if your scan is not covered at the time of booking and provided with an estimated quote.
  • We understand healthcare can be expensive. If required, payment plans can be arranged through our accounts department. Please call to discuss your options (03 9231 3058).

I have top level cover and received an invoice. Why?
  • The majority of your expenses have been paid by your health fund and Medicare, which is shown as a combined payment on your invoice under your health fund.
  • However, Radiology does incur an out of pocket fee, as detailed in your admission package. This fee is waived if you have a pension or healthcare card – please contact our accounts department if this has been missed (commonwealth seniors cards do not apply).
  • To discuss the total cost please contact (03) 9231 3058 or email billing@svha.org.au.
  • The Medicare Safety Net applies exclusively to scans covered by Medicare and conducted as outpatient procedures. Any scans that were performed when you were admitted still may attract an out of pocket expense. Please visit the Services Australia website for more information.
My doctor said I would not have any fees.
  • We aim to provide excellent imaging with minimal out of pocket fees to our patients. If you hold a valid pension or concession card or are a full-time tertiary student, you will be bulk billed for rebatable scans.
  • If you are experiencing financial hardship, please have your doctor contact us to discuss options we can provide.
How do I pay my account:
